Services

We provide a combination of specialized types of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy Interventions exclusively 1-on-1 with our clients.
This attention to detail with a complete hands on approach is used exclusively with every client so as to facilitate a more integrated therapist/patient relationship and optimize your outcomes and minimize your visits.  Often our patients require only 1-2 sessions!

WHAT WE OFFER
  • Trigger Point Dry Needling and Intramuscular Stimulation
    • Trigger points are irritable, hard “knots” within a muscle that may cause pain over a large area, leading to decreased performance, pain, and compensation.  Dry needling is a treatment that involves a very thin needle being pushed through the skin to stimulate a local twitch. Dry needling may release the tight muscle bands associated with trigger points and lead to decreased pain (by removing the pain generator), normalize muscle activation patterns and improve mobility and function.
    • Often the results can be very dramatic allowing for a very quick recovery.
    • Researchers from several journals determined that dry needling can be effective in providing pain relief.  This includes systematic reviews (the highest level of evidence) promoting Trigger Point Dry Needling.
  • Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) Certified (Advanced)
    • The SFMA is designed to assess fundamental patterns of movement such as bending and squatting in those with known musculoskeletal pain. When the clinical assessment is initiated from the perspective of the movement pattern, the clinician has the opportunity to identify meaningful impairments that may be seemingly unrelated to the main musculoskeletal complaint, but contribute to the associated disability.
    • Serves as a model to efficiently integrate the concepts of posture, muscle balance and the fundamental patterns of movement into musculoskeletal practice.
    • Successfully assess how fundamental movements are effected by pain, or weakness, tightness, or structural abnormality
    • Allows for individualized exercise prescription and progression from a movement perspective rather than a pain perspective
  • McKenzie Method (MDT)
    • The McKenzie Method is a unique method used to assess and treat the spine. It is widely recommended as the first choice for common back and neck problems worldwide.
    • Most low back pain is “mechanical” in origin, meaning that an applied force caused the pain. A basic philosophy of McKenzie’s theory is that the reverse force can probably abolish the pain and restore function.
    • McKenzie credits the patient’s ability to learn the principles and empowers them to be in control of their own symptom management, which can reduce dependency on medical intervention. The McKenzie Method promotes the body’s potential to heal itself without medication, heat, cold, ultrasound, needles, surgery or a force dependent on the practitioner
    • Research has shown the initial McKenzie assessment procedures to be as reliable as costly diagnostic imaging (i.e., x-rays, MRIs) to determine the source of the problem and quickly identify responders and non-responders.
  • Joint Mobilization / Manipulation
    • Individuals with neck, shoulder, and back pain who received a combination of  spine thrust manipulation plus exercise demonstrated better overall short-term outcomes
  • Soft Tissue Mobilization and Stretching
    • We provide corrective exercises and tissue extensiblility deficits due to true tightness, guarding, and compensation.
    • Includes instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascia restrictions.
  • Neuromuscular Training
    • Just because a muscle is "strong" doesn't mean its working optimally including control through complex movements, efficient activation times (how quickly it turns on) and thresholds (how much it turns on),  and sequencing with other muscles (synergist). We provide treatment to optimize motor control through fundamental and complex movements.
  • Therapeutic Taping
    • Provide supportive cues to muscles and joints
    • Do not restrict the body’s range of motion and enhance normal motor control
    • Provide extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong and reinforce the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting
  • Home Exercise Program and Functional Exercise Progression
    • Education and prevention strategies are vital to preventing future problems from arising. We use a personalized email with exercise progression and easy contact with the PT through email as a resource to promote carry-over at home.
  • Ergonomic and Postural Education
    • We don't just look at the patient's movement but anything that may limit their overall recovery.  This includes education on work and sitting positioning
  • Crossfit Injury Prevention and Performance Enhancement
    • We diagnose and treat the underlying cause of pain limiting performance and provide our athletes with the tools to manage and prevent problems.
    • Located within a CrossFit affiliate, our clinicians not only regularly treat CrossFit athletes, but are CrossFit athletes themselves. Direct Performance has performed mobility and performance workshops at various affiliates in the area & works with our clients & their coaches to help return the athletes to the box as quickly as possible.
